Borrowing Library Materials

Students may check out library books and materials for use at home using their library account. Each student must use their own library account to check out library materials. Students may exchange their books before school, during break or lunch, or immediately after school, or during scheduled library visits. There is no limit on how often a student may visit the library to check out or return materials.

Renewing Library Materials

The loan period is 14 days from the check out date. Students may renew items for another 7 days by bringing the book back to the library for renewal, unless the book has been requested by another library patron.

Reserving Library Materials

Students may reserve library materials by logging into their library catalog account and placing a hold on the item. The item will be held in the library for collection for two days.

Student Borrowing Allowance

Student borrowing allowance is calculated by adding one to the student's grade level, with an upper limit of 6 books or materials per student.

Grade level Borrowing allowance

Kindergarten 1
Grade 1-2 3
Grade 3 4
Grade 4 5
Grade 5 5

Library Bags

Students in Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1-2 must bring a bag to carry their library books which is separate from their backpack or school bag. The purpose of the library bag is to protect the library books. The library bag may be made from cloth or sturdy plastic. Students will not be allowed to borrow without a library bag.

Student Cards

Students in grade 6 and up should use their student card in order to check out library materials.

Overdue Materials

Overdue notices will be issued on a weekly basis by email. Students will be able to continue to borrow books so long as their borrowing allowance has not been exceeded. However, all students should return overdue materials as soon as possible to ensure fairness to all library patrons.

Lost and Damaged Materials

Lost and damaged materials will incur a fine equal to the cost of the resource, plus 20% to cover shipping and import fees. The library will allow additional time for students to search for materials reported as missing without penalty.

There are two annual deadlines for resolving lost materials, the first being December 13, and the second being June 6.

Donations Policy

The library accepts donations which meet the selection criteria set out in the Collection Development Policy. Donations may be added to the library collection, donated to charitable causes, or used in other ways as required by the library. By donating books to the library, you agree to the Donation Policy.

Annual Inventory

All libraries will close for one week in June in order to conduct the annual inventory.

Summer Borrowing

Returning students may register for summer borrowing in order to check out library materials during the summer vacation. In order to be eligible for summer borrowing, the student must have returned all outstanding library materials and resolved any fines. Relevant dates will be announced each school year.
