I'm excited to give you a warm welcome to our new library blog as I eagerly anticipate the opening of our libraries in August 2024. This page will document the progress as we build and furnish our three state-of-the-art libraries: the ECD Library, serving our early childhood division, the Junior Library, serving the Lower School, and the Senior Library, serving the Middle and Upper School. The libraries will be at the heart of the community, acting as hubs of knowledge, learning, inspiring a love of reading, and igniting the spark of genius in each of our students.
Our libraries are much more than shelves and books. They are spaces designed for exploration, discovery, collaboration, sharing and reflection. In these spaces, students might spend their time reading, researching, studying, or taking part in a lesson with the librarian or their teacher. With state-of-the-art Scandinavian design, cosy reading nooks and collaborative work spaces, the library environment supports both independent learning and cooperation.
Our library collection contains many different kinds of resources. Books, periodicals, electronic databases and multimedia resources like ebooks and audiobooks have been carefully curated to cover a variety of subjects, interests, reading levels and languages. The library collection supports learning in the classroom, as well as independent research, and students' interests and reading for enjoyment. Our wonderful library team will be there to help students and teachers to find the right book.
We welcome innovation and have integrated technology into all aspects of our libraries. Ebooks, digital audiobooks and online databases complement our traditional print resources and enhance the learning experience. Our dynamic, modern approach will prepare students to take on the challenges of tomorrow.
Our libraries will bring the whole school community together with engaging programs and events. Students will be drawn to library programs such as crafts, board games, quizzes and book clubs. Visiting authors will provide enrichment by sharing their insights into writing and storytelling. Our libraries are a place for the community to come together to celebrate reading and learning in all forms.
As the Dwight School Hanoi campus is built, the libraries will begin to take shape. During the following months, this blog will document the development of the libraries, allowing our community to trace the journey from construction to the finished product. We will also share useful information about school libraries and how they promote reading and learning, and help students to achieve their potential.
We can't wait to open our doors. Our goal is to make these spaces truly extraordinary and create lasting memories when we welcome students to explore the books in our brand new libraries. We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
Warm regards
Isolde Rosevear
